​Our aim is to provide the individual support you need in order to reach your full potential whilst studying through your apprenticeship/course. Here, you'll learn what special education needs and disabilities TrainPlus can support you with, the different types of needs and disabilities, how they can impact learning and development, and the support systems in place to help every individual thrive.

What is SEND?

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) is a term used to describe individuals who require additional support due to learning difficulties or disabilities that make it harder for them to learn.

​These needs can be due to various reasons, including physical, sensory, cognitive, or emotional challenges. These are categorised within SEND, which include:
  • Communication and Interaction
  • Cognition and Learning
  • Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Difficulties
  • Sensory and/or Physical Needs

What we provide for SEND?

At TrainPlus we want to help every learner with SEND strive through their learning. To achieve this we are constantly developing new ways in which we can make our services more accessible. Our approach involves a range of specialised programs and resources designed to address diverse learning needs, ensuring equal access to education, and fostering personal growth.

By working closely with students, families, and specialists, we strive to offer individualised support plans, adaptive teaching methods, and a compassionate atmosphere that celebrates each learner's unique strengths and challenges. Our goal is to ensure that all learners with SEND receive the encouragement, resources, and guidance necessary to thrive both academically and personally.​

Types of SEND

We are able to assist with a variety of needs including, but not limited to:

Communication and Interaction

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
    A developmental disorder that affects communication and behaviour, characterised by difficulties in social interaction, repetitive behaviours, and challenges with communication.
  • Speech and Language Disorders
    Includes difficulties with speaking, understanding, and using language. Examples include stuttering, articulation disorders, and expressive/receptive language disorders.
  • Pragmatic Language Impairment
    ​
    Challenges in using language socially, such as understanding sarcasm, following conversational rules, or interpreting non-verbal cues.

Cognition and Learning

  • Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD)
    ​
    These affect certain areas of learning. Examples include:
    - Dyslexia: Difficulties with reading, spelling, and writing.
    - Dyscalculia: Difficulties with mathematical concepts and numbers.
    - Dysgraphia: Difficulties with writing, including handwriting, spelling, and organising ideas.
  • Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
    General developmental delay that impacts learning across all areas.
  • Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)
    ​
    More significant developmental delays that require extensive support.
  • Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
    ​
    Severe and complex learning difficulties, often combined with physical disabilities or sensory impairments.

Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Difficulties (SEMH)

  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
    Characterised by persistent patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity.
  • Conduct Disorder
    ​
    A pattern of disruptive and violent behaviour, and difficulties following rules.
  • Anxiety Disorder
    ​
    Includes generalised anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, and specific phobias.
  • Depression
    ​
    A mood disorder with persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and lack of interest in activities.
  • Attachment Disorder
    ​
    Difficulties forming emotional bonds with others, often due to early trauma or neglect.

Sensory and/or Physical Needs

  • Visual Impairment (VI)
    ​
    Includes partial sight and blindness. Examples include cataracts, glaucoma, and retinopathy.
  • Hearing Impairment (HI)
    ​
    Includes partial hearing loss and deafness. Examples include conductive hearing loss, sensorineural hearing loss, and mixed hearing loss.
  • Multi-Sensory Impairment (MSI)
    ​
    A combination of vision and hearing difficulties, often referred to as deaf blindness.
  • Physical Disabilities
    Conditions that impact physical functioning and mobility. Examples include:
    - Cerebral Palsy: A group of disorders that affect movement, muscle tone, and posture.
    - Spina Bifida: A birth defect that affects the development of the spinal cord.
    - Muscular Dystrophy: A group of genetic diseases that cause progressive weakness and loss of muscle mass.
